Child Support Calculator

Estimate a monthly child support amount and identify the guideline model your state uses.

Because child support is set by state law (there is no uniform federal formula), this is an educational estimate only — your state's official calculator is authoritative.

Parents & children

Select a state to identify its guideline model.
Presets: 0 = no overnight time · ~92 = 25% · ~128 = 35% · ~183 = 50/50. Most Income-Shares states reduce the obligation as overnights rise.

Additional costs (optional)

Subtracted in the Melson model; most other models don't deduct it.

Methodology

Inputs used

Every state has its own official child support guideline calculator. This is an ESTIMATE for educational purposes. Your state's child support agency or a family-law attorney determines the binding amount. Percentages and Income-Shares obligations here are illustrative pre-lawyer figures; always confirm with the official state calculator.

Data sources

Model assignment (Income Shares / Percentage-of-Income / Melson / DC hybrid), the Wisconsin band schedule, and self-support reserves are grounded in the spec's cited sources (NCSL, WI DCF 150, IRP-Wisconsin, SC DSS). Exact dollar amounts are illustrative unless tied to an official figure marked in the methodology.
